On the Consciousness of Phenomena
The river flows to the sea, it carries away all that enriches it,
the water that flows with that richness is pure.
Leave to the sea what the sea has learned and
marry the Sun that, with its rays, carries the pure sea to the sky.
It travels happily, as it will return to mother earth.
It falls, penetrates, flows deeper and deeper everywhere and lives on.
This is some of the “activity” of the Base which, like a river, is in harmony with the events of sentient beings, experiences, memorizes and incorporates them, because it is Source, river, Sea, cloud.
In the world of phenomena four is the fundamental number (see the Appendix “On the Number Four”), in fact To Tear means to divide into four (the darkness). In the binary system, which is used so much nowadays, the freedom in four is demonstrated by the tetralemma. In fact, we have four possible ways of combining zero (0), and one (1).
00, 01, 11, 10. By placing 1-Being and 0-non being (“Being” with the capital B because only the Absolute is Being, “non being” in small letters because we are closer to the infinitesimal, which is the limit which tends to zero) we have:
| not believing in anything |
00 |
non being and NON Being |
| not believing in the “I” and the Self and believing in God |
01 |
non being and Being |
| believing in the “I” and the Self and believing in God |
11 |
being and Being |
| believing in the “I” and the Self and not believing in God |
10 |
being and NON Being |
One can see that the possibilities of the binary code are a bit like the extreme possibilities of belief or non-belief of sentient beings with all their nuances.
For a seeker of spiritual realization the Absolute lies beyond any theorization, therefore it IS and IS NOT.
So we are here, at “being and non being.”
The four states of matter: solid, liquid, gas, plasma, bring to mind the various states of mental freedoms, and their relative behaviors.
The first (0-0), in the world of phenomena, is the equivalent of the behaviour of gas; those who do not believe in anything (nihilists) but the instant that they as indefinite beings perceive. They are alive and dead at the same time. They are live without any law of cause and effect and will die by disappearing into nothingness.
The second (0-1) is the behaviour of liquid; the Source exists and the sentient being is nothing, derived from the Phenomenon/God (so now we're almost there...)
Regarding the third (1-1), we can say that whether seen from our viewpoint or as “seen” by the Absolute, in the simultaneousness of the Freedom conceded by God, we are co-participants in the Joy of the Creation of the Absolute. I would call this solid behavior.
The fourth (1-0) behavior derives only from the “I” and the Self. The Absolute is not considered at all (God, and all the Names GIVEN to It) therefore we are not relating to a consciousness or awareness, zero. This is Plasma-like behavior (with its qualities and defects).
Here is a bit of consciousness regarding the world of phenomena.
There is no need to choose, understand, judge, what is best, what is worst - these are phases to be respected in every sentient being, composed of over 70% water, can be like water itself: solid, liquid, gas... Three? And the fourth? The Absolute is “so” Infinite, inasmuch as sentient beings can know, as their awareness is almost always zero!
Having seen what is possible with the four postulates of behaviors, we can go on to the necessary equanimity, in knowing that the various phases of the search imply that all sentient beings express themselves in every behavior: first they experiment, then they enter into conflict, then they choose, and later they come to know. Then we pass on to another word which is very, very useless: Equanimity in the world of phenomena.
